But now they’re all grown up, and today is a beautiful summer’s day so she’s dancing the day away and has left all her troubles behind. This Race suggest we are all caught up in a race – that we don’t always know that we are in. The race for fame and fortune, to impress those around us. We may not be conscious of it, but it drives our decisions. Stepping outside allows us focus on more important things.
2023: Aguas Profundas (album)
Aguas Profundas
Named Aguas Profundas which means “Deep Waters” in Portuguese, Simon has arrived at a deep and fundamental place with this album. The songs were all written during the lockdowns of the coronavirus pandemic. He experienced the deep joy of getting married and bringing his son into the world.
Recorded with Simon’s band in early 2023, Aguas Profundas feels fresh but deep, connected but with a profound undercurrent – like plunging into deep water. It’s a fascinating mix of roots, pop, soul and Latin that connects the dots of this intriguing songwriter’s musical influences.

2020: Islands (EP)
Islands
EP ‘Islands’ - because while recording it, Simon travelled back and forth between various islands: Florianópolis (Brazil), Cuba, and Australia. Travelling like this can feel like a sailor approaching unknown islands, and this is some kind of map for exploring uncharted territory. Islands is a fascinating mixture of roots, Latin and folk styles that trips lightly between samba, bossa nova, infectious timabala, moving folk ballads and a slice of classic 70s funk.

Travelling Salesman
An ode to the life of the touring musician – when you visit so many places with guitar and suitcase in hand, the hardest place to find is home. Sitting on a river beach in Hamburg, I started thinking about an old maths conundrum, the ‘Travelling Salesman Problem’. It’s about finding the shortest distance between a collection of points on a map, but it’s similar to the life of a touring artist. You go from place to place, but sometimes it’s hard to get back home.
